What Pillow Care is

Pillow Care connects people who need care at home with the professionals who provide it — personal support workers, nurses, doctors and physiotherapists. We verify who they are, we handle the money, and we keep the messages, notes and documents in one place that the care recipient controls.

We do not employ the professionals. They set their own rates and their own availability, and families choose their own — nobody is assigned to anybody.

Adults who need help at home, and the families helping them arrange it. That includes older people who want to stay in their own homes, adults living with a disability, and people coming home after an operation.

It does not currently include anyone under 18, or an adult who is not able to agree to care themselves. Those are real limits and we would rather state them here than have a family find them at the end of a booking.

We are running a pilot in Ontario. You can register from elsewhere in Canada, but you may not find anyone near you yet, and we will not pretend otherwise.

The whole journey is currently in English. The platform is built so it can be translated, and we will not advertise service in another language until every step of the journey can actually be delivered in it.

We take a percentage of each completed booking. That is the whole model — we are not paid by professionals for placement in search results, and we do not sell anyone's information.

We have not published impact figures because we do not have any yet, and a number invented before launch is worth less than no number. These are what we intend to publish, including when they are unflattering:

• How long families wait between requesting a booking and someone accepting it
• How often a booking is cancelled, and by which side
• How many concerns are reported, and how long they take to close
• What proportion of a booking's total reaches the professional
• How many professionals are still working here six months after verification
